This is why we believe that every coaching relationship requires a clear ethics pre-agreement between the coach, the counterpart and, where applicable, the sponsoring party, e.g., the organisation.
The agreement we are going to reach between us before we start will frame out the specific ethical standards and boundaries of trust that all parties will apply during the coaching journey and partnership we are about to enter. Depending on the objectives, methodologies and coaching context, our agreement will outline how we are going to deal with any conflicts of interest that may arise.
Where the coaching counterpart is different from the sponsor, we will explicitedly agree on what remains between coach and coachee exclusively, and what may be shared with the sponsor when and by whom.
However, there are basic professional coaching standards which are non-negotiable for us.
Being accredited by the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leaership, holding a credential of the International Coach Federation (ICF), and being a member of the Hong Kong International Coaching Community (HKICC) means that we have pledged to comply with the following sets of standards at all times: TheICF Code of Ethics The HKICC Coaching Standards
In line with the above codes & standards, all enquiries and coaching sessions are strictly confidential.
Only under very exceptional circumstances, confidentiality would be broken:
If there is reason to assume that there is an immediate serious danger to the life or health of one or more individuals
If there is a legal compulsion to make a disclosure, and a failure or refusal to comply would constitute a criminal offence or contempt of court by the company
